We understand this is a large and dynamic event with many questions, so we created this FAQ to help! If you have any other questions not answered here, please contact jdrew@epilepsynewengland.org.

If you are signing up and need accommodations due to a disability of any type, please send us an email immediately! This will ensure our partner, Over The Edge, has appropriate time to coordinate the arrival of special equipment.

Questions:

What is Over the Edge?

Over The Edge is a special events company that provides signature urban rappelling events for non-profit organizations anywhere in North America. Business leaders, individuals, and community members are invited to raise donations in exchange for the experience of going Over The Edge of a local building and rappelling down the side of the building. Over The Edge has raised over $70 million for non-profits around the world.

Who can rappel?

Almost anyone who has registered and raises $1,000! Rappelers must weigh between 100 and 300 pounds to ensure their safety while rappelling. People from 10-99 have rappelled!

The only restriction is that anyone under the age of 18 requires a parent or guardian’s signature on the legal waiver.

What if I have a disability?

A vast majority of disabilities can be accommodated as long as we have sufficient time for planning. Over the Edge's team is amazing at ensuring safety and inclusion. As some accommodations require extra equipment, letting us know immediately is imperative. Previous accommodations have included: Mobility issues, intellectual disabilities, seizures and epilepsy, wheel chairs, tandem rappels.

How much do I need to fundraise/pay?

At sign-up, all participants agree to fundraise $1,000.00 in order to rappel. This includes your registration fee. Once you sign up you will be sent instructions on how to create your peer-to-peer fundraising page. If the full $1000 has not been raised by June 17th, the remainder of the balance will be charged to the card on file.

If you sign up as a team, you will be eligible for the team reduced fundraising goals. Our team will changed the goals on your account to ensure you aren't held responsible for the full $1,000.

What if I don’t meet the fundraising minimum?

Participants have until June 17th to raise their funds! If the minimum $1,000 is not met by June 17th, the credit card on file will be charged the difference.

What time do I rappel?

Time slots will start to be determined about a month out from the event.

Can I choose my rappel time?

We cannot guarantee you'll rappel at the exact time you're hoping for, however, we will reach out about a month before the event to ask for preferences.

What time should I arrive?

We encourage everyone to spend as much of the day as they can at the event! We would love to have support for everyone rappelling, and it should make for a fun day! However, you only need to arrive with enough time for registration, staging, and your actual rappel.

How long does it take to rappel?

Depending on how quickly you descend the building, it can take between 5-20 minutes.

How high is the rappel point?

The Rappel is 135' high...don't look down!

What about the weather?

The OTE team has VERY strict rules regarding windspeed & watches the weather very carefully in the days prior to the event. We would rappel in rain but NOT in thunder/lightning.

Can I wear a costume to rappel?

Yes! - in fact, it's encouraged!
Our on-site technical team will do their best to make your costume work for your
rappel. The technical team has the final say in whether your costume is safe. Stringy, loose
or excessive costumes should be avoided. Capes should be avoided. Head pieces that will
not accommodate a helmet, obscure your vision or are notably large or heavy will not be
allowed.

Can I take pictures from the roof?

Nope (for safety reasons). BUT we will have photographers positioned throughout the different stages of your rappel process!

What else will be happening?

We are planning a super fun day for everyone! Our ground environment will include yard games and competitions (think cornhole, giant Jenga, etc.), an upbeat DJ and MC, a Beer Garden for adults, possible raffles and prizes, and a great area to watch others daringly rappel from the roof!

Am I allowed to drink alcohol?

The Over The Edge team has a strict no-alcohol before rappelling policy. If they see or smell alcohol consumed, or feel you are not in the right frame of mind, they reserve the right to not allow you to rappel. There will be a Beer Garden with refreshing beverages for once your rappel is finished!

Where should I park?

The Hyatt has an on-site parking garage that can be used. Participants will receive a parking voucher, and all guests coming to watch will receive a discounted parking rate.

Where is the venue?

The event will be hosted at the Hyatt Regency Boston/Cambridge Hotel. Event activities will take place in the courtyard of the hotel, while the actual rappel will start on the roof and finish in the courtyard.
