AmeriCorps Member
My name is Timothy O'Brien and I am an AmeriCorps Community Health Worker serving the Epilepsy Foundation New England at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. I've lived in the Boston area my entire life, and am excited to give back to my community! I attended Regis College in Weston, MA for undergrad where I studied Neuroscience and Biology. I am currently in my final year of the Master of Public Health (MPH) at Regis where I am concentrating in Epidemiology. I've worked in healthcare for several years in inpatient psychiatry, but felt called to change directions in my career in healthcare. Epilepsy hits close to home, as my younger sister and other family members have lived with epilepsy. EFNE stood out to me as their outreach to patients and families, information, and support of new advances in epilepsy care have helped many families impacted by the disease. I hope to combine my knowledge and experience in both neuroscience and public health to support patients with epilepsy in my community. I hope to pursue medicine as a career, specializing in neurology, psychiatry or family medicine. I feel that the experiences gained here at EFNE will help me better advocate for patients, provide resources to them, and advance clinical and population health research in these fields.
