My name is Faythe McCarthy and this is my third year serving with Epilepsy Foundation. My host site is Umass Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts as a full time Community Health Worker. I work as a team member at the Hospital assisting clients with housing, food insecurity, and resources to improve their quality of life. I love working with the team in the neurology department at the hospital and have gained a lot of experience. I wanted to serve to give back to the community after going through nasopharyngeal cancer two times. I dealt with cancer in 2015, 3 surgeries, 2022 1 surgery, and many hours of chemotherapy and radiation. I am currently in remission, and I wanted to give back to all those that helped and supported me through my journey and treatments. I am moved by expressions of kindness I received from people that barely knew me and how much these moments of compassion helped me during difficult times. On my time off, I am a wife of a retired Worcester police officer. After 32 years serving, he retired in 2021. I have custody of my niece who has many disabilities, and I also have two amazing step kids; Dillon who graduated from Drew University; and Joy who attends Cape Cod Community College. I like to spend time with my nieces and nephews and godchildren; as I am their biggest fan and very close to them. I have a big heart and always help my family and friends, and I believe that I always take the extra mile in helping people.
