Welcoming EFNE’s New President & CEO: John Hedstrom
We are pleased to share that John Hedstrom, JD will be joining Epilepsy Foundation New England as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 6, 2026.
John brings over two decades of leadership experience in nonprofit management, healthcare advocacy, public policy, and association development. Throughout his career, he has built high-performing teams, guided organizations through periods of growth and transformation, and championed mission-driven initiatives that strengthen communities.
His experience includes senior leadership roles with The ALS Association in New England, where he helped unite regional operations and expand services for families. John has also served in national advocacy roles with the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Dermatology, advancing impactful healthcare policy initiatives at the federal level. Most recently, he served as Executive Director of the National Board of Trial Advocacy, where he led organizational modernization, launched new education programs, and broadened partnerships across the country.
John’s connection to this work runs even deeper on a personal level: he is the parent of a child living with epilepsy. This lived experience brings a profound sense of purpose to his leadership and reflects the empathy, commitment, and urgency he brings to serving our community.
As we prepare to welcome John, we extend our sincere gratitude to Kimberlee Schumacher for her steady leadership and dedication as Interim President & CEO. Her guidance throughout this transition has strengthened EFNE and positioned us for a successful next chapter.
Beginning January 6, John looks forward to getting to know the people and families EFNE serves and to working together to expand care, connection, and hope throughout New England.
